This is an exciting new area. Rather than remove a painful disc sometimes you can inject the disc with medications to repair the disc or deaden the nerves causing pain inside the disc. Richard Derby, a well known spinal researcher from California, perfected this technique.

The International Spinal Injection Society has reported the research in this area and Dr. Magaziner has added this to his armamentarium. In the future we will be adding new medications which carry growth factors and stem cells to repair and regenerate the disc. This research is ongoing.
